GRP Roofing Systems
GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Polyester, more commonly known as fibreglass.
The process of using GRP for flat roofing has been around for a while. At All Seasons Industrial Roofing we only use the finest GRP products.
Our suppliers FILON have, for over 60 years, manufactured translucent Glass Reinforced Polyester Rooflights and Glass Reinforced Polyester profiled cladding sheets.
Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) is, as the name suggests, a polyester material reinforced with the addition of glass fibre (also commonly known as fibreglass). The material is produced by combining thermosetting polyester resin and glass fibres under strictly controlled factory conditions. Glass fibres are applied into the resin with each layer of fibres facing in different directions, enabling the stiffness and strength of the finished material to be controlled. The effect is a strong, lightweight material that is naturally watertight.
GRP Cladding Sheets
We also supply and fit FILON DR Refurb GRP sheets which are available in translucent or opaque colours as a replacement for old or damaged profiled roofing sheets – including profiles which have been discontinued.
To enhance the strength and impact resistance of your roof, these sheets incorporate an extra woven reinforcement which provides a strong composite with sufficient flexibility to enable the sheets to be easily fixed into existing roofs.
The refurbishment sheets were originally designed for replacement of old asbestos cement sheets, however they are equally suitable for the replacement of metal sheets. The versatility of the sheets means that they can be used as a direct replacement, or directly laid onto existing damaged sheets – they are strong enough to replace and thin enough to overlay. In either case, this involves removing the fixings and fitting the DR sheet below the roof sheet at the head lap and at the underlapping side lap.
Benefits of GRP Cladding Sheets
- Offering effective and easy roof repairs
- Ideal for overlaying lightly damaged roof sheets
- Available in a wide range of profiles
- Available as translucent sheets or in opaque colours
- Strong, durable and lightweight roofing solution
- Colours to suit your roof
- Three fire resistant grades available
FILON rooflights are most commonly supplied as natural translucent GRP sheets. Colour tints can be offered in almost any colour, and as more colour tint is added, the sheet becomes semi opaque and eventually opaque in that colour. Opaque sheets can be used for many applications including the repair / replacement of asbestos cement roofs, as permanent cladding, and also in corrosive environments where steel sheeting would be unsuitable.
Their profiled rooflights are made from glass reinforced polyester resin with unique light diffusing additives that scatter light to provide effective daylighting without hot spots, excessive glare or shadow.
